I bought my first Chihuahua Long Coat girl purely as a companion for my Yorkshire Terrier puppy. My 14 year old Toy Poodle wasn’t up to playing with her, and was much happier when a Chi took the job off her hands. It came as such a revelation to me that the Chihuahua has no idea at all about size, and it is definitely all dog.

I researched the breed as much as I could, and read loads about breeding and showing. Being a doggie person anyway, it was usual to go to Cruft’s, but at my next visit I paid particular attention to the Chihuahuas being exhibited. Unfortunately, I found that it was going to be difficult to enter the “show” world. People I phoned were very pleasant, but never went so far as to contact me, even when I was happy to go on their waiting list.

It was Neil Wallace who eventually let me have a girl who he thought would make me a good brood bitch, and Gemma turned out to be the start of everything. Thank you Neil.

Coltham Indian Summer for Keronella will always be with me, and is a very special little girl.
